Civil War

I've been learning about the Civil War in Social Studies.  The part that is the most confusing is why owners treated their slaves like garbage.  This topic reminds me of when my mom spanks me; at least I don't get whipped.  Knowing this topic helps me not to be mean to people.  The part I know the most about is people in the North didn't like slavery but people in the South agreed with slavery.

  1. I remember reading a book about the civil war. It was called 'Across Five Aprils'. Which side do you support? Why?

  3. Jessica,

I've read a few stories of people who supported the South because of "State's Rights", not just slavery. They wanted to be able to make the decision whether or not to have slaves rather than the President telling them not to. It reminds me of when I feel like doing something just because someone (especially my parents) told me I couldn't, even if I know that thing is not right. It reminds me to think about what the right action is before I act.

    Keep investigating!

  4. I've also learned about people in the south leaving the union when Abraham Lincoln became President.

  6. Yes, I agree with you. Well most of the slaves were Black Americans, so I think there shouldn't have been slavery in the first place.
